The technology entails the synthesis, characterization and spectroscopy of upconverting lanthanide-doped NaYF4 nanoparticles or nanocrystals (NCs). Monodisperse cubic NaYF4 NCs were synthesized via a thermal decomposition reaction. Colloidally stable solutions of NaYF4 NCs can be obtained. Oxides and garnets are also available.
