External Sensor Systems for TV, Game Consoles, Surveillance or other Device Controls

The operation of remote control transmitter functions using external sensors allowing for the control of TVs, game consoles, digital video recorders and other devices using sensor technology.

The apparatus uses existing remote control technology, compatible with infrared, visual, acoustical, or radio frequency electromagnetic transmission with an interface to external sensors or devices via switches, logic levels or contact closures.

The fundamental operation of the device is to control remote controller functions by external sensors or other devices. These devices can be any device capable of providing a logic level or contact closure. Each remote control is independent of other remote controls and can operate as a stand-alone system not requiring interaction with other remotes with multiple remote controls to transmit commands from different sensors or devices to multiple remote control receivers.

The system enables any remote control transmitter to be modified to perform this function without the need to redesign any existing control functions either in the transmitter or receiver and is compatible with all remote control transmitters and receiver functions. The system is applicable to any form of control, is not dependent on existing designs, and easily implemented in any remote control transmitter. The system is a cost-effective solution to any problem, or requirement, associated with external control of remote control functions.

Primary Application of the Technology

The patent invention can be used with televisions, digital recorders (DVRs), surveillance systems, game consoles and other devices including a remote control.

Patent Summary

U.S. Patent Classes & Classifications Covered in this listing:

Class 341: Coded Data Generation Or Conversion

1) originating or emitting a coded set of discrete signals or 2) translating one code into another code wherein the information signal content remains the same but the formats may differ. For classification herein, at least one of the codes must be a set of pulses or digits and electrical in nature.

Subclass 176: Transmitter for remote control signal

Class 340: Communications: Electrical

Communications - the handling of information or intelligence, restricted to the conveying of said information or intelligence between geographically spaced points. Information or intelligence is defined as being, matter which is handled by signaling systems or signaling devices (such as telegraph systems) or by that portion of nonsignaling systems or nonsignaling devices (such as power supply systems) which is designated in the arts as having a control function (such as the supervisory circuits which control the circuit breakers of an electric power network). Handling, as used above, is defined as being the active coaction between the tangible communication system or device and the intangible information or intelligence, and such coaction may assume various forms, such as transmission, storage, exhibiting, etc.

Subclass 539.23: Proximity
