Overview

Mechanic wave propagation through a liquid depends on its characteristics. These can be altered by physic micro-changes caused by the presence of microorganisms. These little alterations on normal characteristics of milk cause that the ultrasonic wave takes more or less time to recover the way between the emitter and the receiver (velocity) and besides modify the absorption that “milk” environment exerts on ultrasonic waves, modifying the amplitude of wave peaks (absorption).

The object of this patent is a new non-invasive method of broad spectrum microbiological detection and analysis based on the propagation of elastic waves through the milk or a dairy product derivative.

Primary Application of the Technology

The prototype has been developed for the dairy industry, although it could be applied to other UHT products.
