"White Space" Opportunity based on Cornell Study that found half of prostate cancers are driven by estrogen

Overview

A 2008 Cornell Medical College study found that around half of prostate cancers are driven by an estrogen activated cell surface receptor (fusion mutation).

Most legacy treatments are based on Testosterone dependence. Mechanistically, certain anti-testosterone treatments may be antagonistic for estrogen driven prostate cancers. Drugs that block conversion of testosterone to DHT could leave more ambient testosterone available for aromatization into estrogen. Testosterone receptor binders could leave more testosterone available for aromatization into estrogen.

Regimens that increase estrogen levels would fuel the growth of estrogen driven prostate cancers.

Specifically targeting the estimated 92,000 new estrogen driven prostate cancer cases per year in the US is a “white space” opportunity, that, at a $ 50K regimen price, would translate into $ 4.8 Billion in annual revenue.

The Treatment method covered by the patent is called Tumor Specific Cell Cycle Synchronous Chemotherapy (TS-CCSC). TS-CCSC uses FDA approved drugs ( GnRH antagonists and aromatase inhibitors) to zero out indigenous estrogen levels to arrest the tumor(s). Monthly, exogenous estrogen is administered to flush the cancer cells into the S-Phase and an S-Phase cytotoxic is administered to kill the cancer cells as they pass through the S-Phase. The arrest, release, kill cycle is repeated monthly, with high specificity to the cancer and minimal systemic toxicity.

Because only FDA approved drugs are used (repurposed), the treatments may be started in a Phase II setting or by a licensed oncologist, at low cost, and with fast clinical implementation or exit by sale, as desired.

Primary Application of the Technology

Prostate Cancer patients whose cancer is driven by estrogen, estimated at around half of all prostate cancers.
