Unified Communications as a Service Softswitch in the Cloud    

Technology license including source code for carrier class softswitch built in a totally software-centric architecture. Challenges incumbent telecommunication vendors.


This carrier class softswitch is a new paradigm replacement for both hardware-centric VoIP telecommunications systems and legacy central office switches. There are only a few vendors in this space and many of these are either hardware-centric, with the burden of manufacturing overheads or they are Open Source which is now seen as a security risk. This Softswitch has been coded entirely in house with no open source.

This technology is unique in that it is entirely software so it can deploy directly 'to the Cloud'. It runs on Common Off The Shelf (COTS) computers, is low cost and scales infinitely. With this small and flexible technology package a vendor can create a challenge to the incumbents, with a far greater range of features and much greater scale. 100,000 users can be supported in one physical computer server with 30,000 concurrent calls and more than 200 features including unified communications in 'the Cloud'.

This is unmatched in performance and with its native virtualization engine no 3rd party virtual machine software is required and no licenses payable to any other parties. Technology licensees will be able to compile their own applications, customise and update them at will. We have identified 9 features that are potentially patentable.

The Problem Solved by the Technology

The main issue for telecommunication softswitch vendors is that they are either locked into legacy hardware, or they develop using open source cores. In the first instance the scalability is limited simply by the complexities of the hardware and in the second instance there are now rising concerns about security, reliability and again scale. There are only a few telco scale softswitches and these comprise mutliple physical servers and very high costs. Service providers don't currently have a lot of choice - its either go with the open source core technology or with a 'brand' that hits them with high total cost of ownership.

How the Technology Solves the Problem

This technology has been 10+ years in development to achieve a software-centric platform with no manufacturing overhead, minimal carbon cost to operate and it can be deployed with just one physical server from any vendor. There is no hardware to store, warehouse, ship or handle - just software licenses to add or change on the fly. Total cost of ownership is extremely low - lower than open source due to an easy OA&M (Operation, Administration & Management) portal and low support staff count.

Telephony and VoIP Service Providers are the natural customers for this technology.

Replacement of legacy telephony platforms, replacement of Open Source VoIP platforms that have reached their scalability and reliability limit and new Unified Communications as a Service provider platform for next generaton telecommunication looking for scale and flexibility in 'the Cloud'. The technology has been on the market since 2007 and has a proven customer base of telco service providers in a number of countries. User licenses have been sold - no technology licenses have been sold to date.
