Who and what: I am a pediatric emergency medicine physician and the inventor of an oral rehydration calculator for use with rehydrating solutions such as Pedialyte. This device and method is patent pending and after experiencing the benefits of a scheduled rehydration program with my patients I am confident that this device will ignite sales of Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) from conscientious parents who are trying to keep their child from the complications of dehydrating gastroenteritis. The Problem: In a child with vomiting and/or diarrhea too much fluid too fast leads to vomiting and sicker children, whereas not enough fluid leads to increased morbidity due to worsening dehydration. Rotavirus and similar illnesses cost approximately 4 billion dollars to treat each year. Many of these children end up presenting to their doctors and emergency rooms (ERs) needlessly and could be avoided by using Pedialyte or a similar solution and the rehydration calculator. Solution: I selected your company because your manufacture Pedialyte a leading ORS. I believe this device will benefit your company in many different ways; This device will drive sales of pedialyte[or other rehydration solutions], increase the brand position by offering a unique tool that competitors cannot, increase awareness of the problem and create new markets from those parents who are able to avoid the ER through the use of this device. Briefly stated my invention is a handheld device that can and has been initiated by someone with a 5th grade education, within 20 seconds. The parent or caretaker simply enters the weight of the child and the device will output how much fluid to give and indicate by light or sound at each interval it is to be given . This systematic, weight (or surface area) based dosing of Pedialyte will avoid the vomiting frequently associated with incorrect administration of Pedialyte. Essentially; the Rehydration Calculator is to Pedialyte as the Thermometer is to Motrin and Tylenol. The Power of this device lies in 1) Marketing this device that sets you apart from your competitors 2) Including it with a package of pedialyte 3) Selling to Clinics and ERs to dispense and/or charge as a durable medical device 4) Promote the cost savings that this device plus Pedialyte has over the ER and emergent visits to the clinic. 5) Humanitarian donation to treat one of the top causes of death in the developing world. I am seeking to sell or license the patent rights to my invention. If you are potentially interested in the Rehydration Calculator, please click on 'tell me more'. |
